As Chinese society continues to change at such at a rapid pace, so too does its desire for artistic expression. BTAP continues to lead the way, fostering the emergence of young Chinese contemporary artists alongside their Asian counterparts. Set in a unique location that juxtaposes the legacy of the past with the vigor of the present, BTAP continues to work as a venue that engages in ongoing dialogue with art museums and art critics alike, from China and around the world, and in particular the Beijing community, to whom we are grateful for allowing us the invaluable opportunity for artistic exchange.

The opening reception for “BTAP – Works in progress” will take place November 1, 2007, (15:00~17:00) at Tokyo Gallery + BTAP in the Dashanzi District.

About Tokyo Gallery + BTAP (Beijing Tokyo Art Projects)
In 1950, Tokyo Gallery opened in Ginza as the first contemporary art gallery in Japan. It introduced Western avant garde artists such as Lucio Fontana and Jackson Pollock to Japan before anybody else and taking note of the Gutai and "Mono-ha" artists, it supported the development of their work. Having worked closely with Korean contemporary art from the 1970s and Chinese contemporary art from the latter half of the 1980s, in 2002 Tokyo Gallery opened Beijing Tokyo Art Projects (BTAP) in the Dashanzi district of Beijing. In 2000, the gallery started being run by two brothers, who with a team of young staff bring their personal touch to the gallery's activities. Having both a long history and a contemporary outlook, Tokyo Gallery strives to promote Japanese, Chinese and Korean contemporary art on an international level.
