罗伯特·劳申伯格(Robert Rauschenberg),1925年出生于美国堪萨斯州,是美国波普艺术的代表人物之一。他曾就学于美国的黑山学院,在黑山学院的经历使他接受了达达主义的艺术观念。在20世纪50年代抽象主义的兴盛期,劳申伯格将达达艺术的现成品与抽象主义的行动绘画结合起来,创造了著名的“综合绘画”,这是他走向波普艺术的开端。1953年他得到了一幅德·库宁(De Kooning)的作品,他用颜料将之涂掉,并将最后的结果作为一个作品展出,命名为:《已擦除的德库宁的作品》。通过这种方式,他消抹了西方社会中笼罩在那些曾创造过精美艺术品的大师级英雄人物头上的光环,试图将人们的思想引向一个更为自由的天地,使人们在面对浩繁的艺术传统的时候,还有平和的心态和创造的勇气。在20世纪60年代,他开始把大众图象拼贴成大型丝网版画,对波普艺术的发展起了很大的推动作用。他的作品就是要打破艺术与生活的界限。正如他所说:“绘画是艺术也是生活,两者都不是做出来的东西。我要做的正处在两者之间。”
