菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）个展近日在Blum & Poe画廊开幕。菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）1944年出生于日本岩手县盛冈，现生活并工作于静冈县。菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）是“物派”（Mono-ha）的领导人物之一——“物派”指的是一群在上世纪60年代晚期和70年代早期时彻底对日本艺术进行了重新定义的艺术家。这场展览是菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）在北美的首场个展。它占据了Blum & Poe画廊的两层展厅：下层展厅展出了菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）创作于上世纪70和80年代的大型装置作品，下层展厅则展出了这位艺术家较新的作品。
物派艺术家探索了自然与工业材料之间的相遇，比如石头、钢板、玻璃、电灯泡、棉花、海绵、纸、木材、金属丝、绳索、皮毛、油和水等——他们主要将这些材料布置在未被改变的、短暂的状态中。这些作品既关注了不同的元素与其周围空间的相互依赖，同时也关注了材料本身。菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）正在进行中的对“状态”和“存在的激活”的探索便是这种遗留物一个至关重要的方面。在作品“Jokyoritsu”（1971）中，菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）将10块扁平的石头在长达20米的玻璃块上排列成一行，然后使其整个悬浮在山口县宇部市常盘公园中某个湖泊的上面。菅木志雄（Kishio Suga）的许多作品都以这种微妙而又引人注意的对水平状态、悬浮和重力的视觉化为特色。
