学术讨论是当代艺术的重要推动力,特别是在当下中国当代艺术被符号化和单一化的时候,用学术来开启新的艺术创作显得尤其重要,喜玛拉雅美术馆在新馆还没有装修并正式开馆之前,以它在五维的证大当代艺术空间(原证大当代艺术陈列馆)和证大朱家角艺术馆的两个分馆,通过展览和论坛介入到这个学术建设中,并开始讨论各种有争议和既具有理论前沿性,又有美术史学背景的论题。



二、论坛:“抽象之后的批评理论”

1960年代,西方的现代绘画理论有了一个小结,后现代主义批评理论随之兴起,最重要的特征是,这时的艺术已经不只是绘画本身的问题,而是前卫艺术与理论对绘画理论的批判。半个世纪以来,后现代批评理论仍然是未定论的而且是争议不断的,以至于这样的批评理论,无论是西方还是中国,在学院中是被搁置的。这就有必要在致力于当代艺术的美术馆举办论坛。本次论坛结合“抽象之后的绘画:涂鸦、图像再造和多重主题”的展览背景,以现代主义艺术批评的终结处为起点,讨论一个绘画在抽象之后的多种呈现和它的理论系统,以期获得抽象之后的绘画批评方法论上的思考和面对新的绘画时在理论上的创造力。

美术馆不但是展览的现场,而且还是艺术教育的现场。因此创作工作坊和学术工作坊在美术馆中起着重要的作用,它以鲜活的现场感催生创作和研究的创造力。喜玛拉雅美术馆将推动新一代批评家的学术。

展览选取了1950年代、1960年、1970年代和1980年代出生的四代艺术家的作品,从这些作品中要说明的是,上两代的画家一直坚持自己的绘画个人性,而下两代也在主流绘画外独立思考绘画的主题,当然他们的作品不是宏大趣味的抽象画,也不是中国符号化的绘画,而是在抽象之后、中国符号化之外的绘画,他们有着对图像的不同理解、绘画语言的开放式选择和主题上的个人角度。这就是本次被命名为“抽象之后的绘画:涂鸦、图像再造与多重主题”的原因,所以本次展览也因为他们的作品而使绘画有了新的讨论的起点。



五、展览:“水墨方向(3)——陈九、刘永顺双个展”

“水墨方向”是喜玛拉雅美术馆的学术项目,是以展览的方式讨论水墨领域的各种可能性,当然对于处在中西交汇的水墨画而言,各种方向都会成为水墨领域思考内容。这次以陈九和刘永顺的作品为双个展,组成一个对话式现场,陈九从山水画中抽离出水波纹的元素,而刘永顺从传统书法中抽离出书法线条的运动,他们在书法与中国画的两种艺术史背景下实践着现代水墨。



六、艺术家工作室开放日

工作室开放也是一种展览方式,“九月的艺术”项目包括五维艺术家工作室开放日。五维艺术园区既有喜玛拉雅美术馆的展区,也有艺术家工作室。9月8日,结合“抽象之后的绘画:涂鸦、图像再造与多重主题”展览开幕,五维的艺术家工作室与其互动,立体展示五维艺术家的生存创作状况和艺术生态。

Though the new site of Himalayas Art Museum is yet to be unveiled, the museum’s efforts to carve out a platform for academic discussions and contemporary art presentations never stop. With a series of events and programmes to be launched at Zendai Contemporary Art Space (former Zendai Contemporary Art Exhibition Hall) and Zendai Zhujiajiao Art Museum, two branches of Himalayas Art Museum, the museum has been dedicated to supporting academic researches and offering artists, curators, critics and the general public a place where ideas can be exchanged and where there is room for debates.

A summary was made to western modern painting theories in the 1960s, following which post-modern critical theories emerged. One of the most distinctive features back then was that art was not only about painting but also about criticism on painting theories by avant-garde art and theories. Over half a century later, post-modern critical theories still remain undefined and controversial, which leads to the need to further deepening the study of this topic. By focusing on the development of painting after abstract expressionism and the theoretical system behind it, the forum, together with the exhibition Painting after Art Goes Abstract - Graffiti, Image Reproduction and Multiple Themes, aims to provide some new perspectives of and reflections upon critical theories after art goes abstract.

Art museum is more than a place for exhibition. It is also a primary site for art education. As workshops play an increasingly important role in the development of art and art education, the Himalayas Art Museum specially designs a series of curators/critics workshops for the young generation to learn and show their talents.

Chinese Ink Painting – Change and Growth is an ongoing project co-launched by Himalayas Art Museum and Zendai Zhujiajiao Art Museum. It aims to further explore the possibilities of ink and wash painting. Chen Jiu and Lin Yongshun’s exhibition is the 3rd of the series. Works of the two artists feature the practice of contemporary ink and wash under the influence of traditional calligraphy and landscape painting, and are supposed to create a scene for interactive dialogue.



VI. Art Studio Open Day

Venue: Wuwei Creative Space (No. 1436, Jungong Rd)



Art studio open day is a good way for artists to present their work. This September Wuwei Creative Space will present its first Art Studio Open Day for art practitioners and art lovers. On September 8, in addition to the opening of Painting after Art Goes Abstract – Graffiti, Image Reproduction and Multiple Themes, visitors can also have the chance to take a close look at the various studios at Wuwei and to interact with the artists.
