Press Release Excerpt:

Tang's debut solo presentation in Singapore will feature 10 paintings from his most recent series.

Tang's paintings are often concerned with social commentary, alongside a sense of anxiety and restlessness. This series also has an added sense of the personal, following an incident in the beginning of the year where the artist was bitten by a dog, which stirred within him manic emotions and an unexplainable delusion of death.

The exhibition title "Dog Bark" refers to a berserk reaction to the world's overly tranquil or chaotic atmosphere; a howl at death, or even a hysterical laughter.

Tang's provocative trait runs through his works, bringing about a sense of tension and absurdity through his surreal imagery in the works displayed in this exhibition. The line between fact and fiction is blurred, leaving the viewer to conjure their perceptions of what is presented.

The 10th edition of Asia Contemporary Art Week (ACAW) is a dynamic platform that connects over 40 New York and Asia based art institutions to present cutting-edge exhibitions, innovative projects, provocative dialogues and festivities citywide.

FIELD MEETING Take 3: Thinking Performanceis one of the two signature programs organized by ACAW 2015, an exclusive art forum, staging lecture-performances, talks and discussions with over 30 keynote figures to foreground the multiplicity and critical role of performance work coming out of the context of Asia.

Tang Dixin’s practices involve a spectrum of media, all of which contribute to emphasizing the site-specificity and eventuality of art. Tang Dixin’s performance, “Mr. Hungry” is an adaptation from his on-site performance at AIKE-DELLARCO last year, and uses the physical divergence between the act of ‘walking’ and ‘climbing’ in a social environment as an imaginative interval to defy social norms. The artist’s actions suggest his retreat to a subdued expression of disobedience.
