所有能思考的事情都可以思考清楚。而有些艺术家的作品,总是先让人处在脑子一片空白的状态,有时候就是下意识的自己也不明白究竟看出了什么。回想时,却常常不由自主地体会到创作者隐性的考虑和思维探索。抛开画面的显性特征,在探究创作者的意识形态揣测他们的观念或精神之前,一个作品,能给你这样回味的感觉并在潜移默化中吸收就已经与众不同。此次《思维之上》将透过展示黄立言孙大量迟群胡灏聪四个艺术家项目,呈现创作者各自不同而又本能的精神生态。


黄立言,《绿头苍蝇》,布面油画,160x160cm,2013


黄立言《惶然者》

一个艺术家如果能从自身的精神格局与现实状态来完成作品的话,那么他的内心是诚实的。以安静状态下的思想韧性以及对生活现场细节的深度关注,将视角不断地在社会的各个角落里扫视,并不断地收集某个细节中的情感困局,然后回返到个人的图像模式中进行处理,把别人的困局变成了自己的困局,然后构成一个叠影的精神生态现实。出于一种无法回避的本能去作画,作品就有一种本能的意志,画的是穿透心理的那一刹那。(孙晓枫)

孙大量《屁股的宣言》

最嚣张的地方最无耻。所以给欲盖弥彰的封闭隔绝起来。我们身上最膨胀的部位永被内裤和外裤以及夹在中间的棉毛裤包裹,变成隐蔽、忌讳和无趣,表示我们天性迟钝和累赘的标记,便于泄气。谁去勘察齿痕,评估屁股的定性是由它的脉络含量与肌肉比例,还是由类比性和解释性极强的裤子所决定,或二者所共谋,并对我们仰仗亢奋升级公式与我们信任抑制伎俩的平衡本能深感烦恼?屁股所包含的部位因其实用性仰赖于其不可见性,裤子揭示它的不值一看,屁股的圆满则指现在、臃肿和自嘲,自带一个维持无权的隔层。(萧开愚)


迟群《线》

脱离具体事物,线成为载体,以线的集结来塑造坚硬而温暖的轮廓。迟群用尺或者胶带纸作为辅助物进行密集的排布,又通过细致打磨的方式将绘画中的手工痕迹加以弱化和清理,以此简化已经存在的作品表层关系。色线在排列和交叠之间达成变化丰富的透明感,并在黑白灰色阶透叠的缝隙中表述着对光感的追求,呈现的微观细节体现着艺术家处理材料记忆的敏感线,这种理性的表达形式,最后体现的,是艺术家朴素冷静的生存精神。(丁乙

空间项目《胡灏聪:打包一水滴》

在当代的景观下,胡灏聪明尝试重新理解自身和生活之间的关系,无论是自我规训/消除/生产,不再是一种暧昧的状态,而是试图理解为个体劳动过程中,身体内部与外部之间互为作业的关系。艺术家视“这里”是一个“梦中的建筑”,在这个不可流动的液态空间中感知关于情感状态的温度与湿度,“在生命的过程中经历尽可能多的诗性情境”(德波)。

The exhibition Beyondthe Mind will present artists’ varied yet instinctive perspectivesthrough four solo projects by Huang Liyan, Sun Daliang, Chi Qun and Hu Haocong.


Huang Liyan - The Haunted

If an artist can create works out of his own spiritual quest and reality status, we can say that the artist is honest. A quietly deep thinker, Huang scrutinizes life in its very details, he constantly scans the society and picks up plights of human sentiments out of little details around corners of life. He translates these onto his canvas and makes them plights of his own, forming his spiritual reality that is of overlapping shadows.  The artist paints out of unavoidable instinct, his work thus carries an instinctive will that penetrates to the heart the moment you see them. Sun Daliang - Allegory of Ass

The most outrageous place is the most shameless, hence it needs to be wrapped up and isolated from the world. This particularly ulgy part of our body is always hidden behind the underwear pajamas, wool pants and other multiple layers of clothes - it becomes a forbidden taboo, a dull marker of our natural-born burden saved only for gas-leaking. Who is responsible for the investigating the traces of teeth and evaluating the stability of ass? Is it up to the ratio of muscle mass and energy network, or scalable condition of pantsor the combination of the two? Is the consequence deeply deformed by our hyperreliance to this formula? The practicality of ass is closely tied to itsinvisibility. The exterior-pants only reveal its visual worthlessness. The smallness and deepness of ass is connected to puniness of nihilism. The wholesomeness of ass points toward cumbersomeness and self-irony and wrapsaround a layer of insulation. Xiao Kaiyu)


Hu Haocong - Pack a Drop of Water

In the contemporary spectacle, Hu Haocong attempts to re-comprehend the relationship between himself and life, including self discipline/elimination/production, which is no longer an ambiguous status. Instead, it would be understood as the interacting relationship between the inner and the outer of body in the process of individual laboring. The artist considers“here” as an “architecture in dream”, and aims to apperceive the temperatureand humidity of emotional status in this immobile liquid space (Debord).


Chi Qun - Lines

Chi Qun's works exemplify a looser and more abrasive application of line crafting a mood of relaxation and tranquility. Her use of soft grey, brown and white warm the viewer, mirroring the peace found in natural elements such as air, wood and water. These colors grow and transform alongside the artist's delicate handling of linear from which creates variation and harmony in her pictures. In the series of four black and white painting it is interesting to observe a simple break-down of some of the more complicated and intricatepatterns of the majority of her works which are almost threadlike in texture, as though finely sewn together with needle and thread, creating captivating patchworks of geometric shapes. The serious status through a process of accumulation of drawing experiments in the young generation is very rare. (Ding Yi)




Situated in M50, a premier art compound of Shanghai, LOFTOOO Art Space aims to feature visions produced by Chinese emerging artists who rejuvenate and challenge the contemporary art repertoire.The space is dedicated to discover and promote young artists, a majority of which belongs to the generation of the late 70's and 80's. We select artists who work in a variety of media with a focus on works on canvas and paper,photography and installation art.
