- What

- Why

一个充满想象⼒、有趣、孩子喜欢的地方;

一个能够让人发呆、思索和良久回味的场所;

Story 9  Children’s Books

-What

“Children’sBook” is a book, in which every chapter carries beautiful wishes from artist.It is the art that only happens when everybody participates, or say, reads.

“Children’sBook” is more than a book, in which every chapter takes place at differentpublic spaces in the city, such as library, school, store and hospital. It is apublic art project that lasts for nearly six months, and is also a dailybehavior that happens in our life.

-Why

Theproject is expected to warm people. More communication creates more colors andinterests for life, and the artist hopes to do more good to the city with othercitizens.

Toadd more surprise, thought, and romance to life.

Thefirst chapter   Thingsare Looking Up

                                  Words fromthe Mouths of Babes

Thefirst chapter of “Children’s Books” takes place at Hangzhou Public Library, andlasts for three months, during which exhibitions, lectures, communications, questionnairesand theme activities will be held. Details can be seen at brochures of eachmonth.

“Peoplewho have grown up in the culture of the city always see pictures of the seabefore they see the sea; they read of love in romance novels and only later dothey know love. Our experience is quite often second-hand, borrowed fromartificial theatricals, and as a result the line between life and itsdramatization becomes difficult to draw.” – from “ Words from the Mouths ofBabes” by Eileen Chung.

“Thingsare looking up” is a unique way of looking, and “from the Mouths of Babes” is away of reading (The phases are in the lead of“From the Mouths of Babes”) . Thenature and function of library, coupled with behaviors of people in this space,construct the things happening there. I hope, by using those sections, scenes,and words scattered in the space, to understand the “second-hand experience”described by Eileen Chung, perhaps, vise versa.

Childrenhas unconstrained freedom, while audiences have their rights to select theirreading, and we need to take some exercises to have our brains relax and walkin unconstrained imagination.

Aplace where is full of imagination, interesting and kids like; a spot wherepeople can stare blankly, think and recall the past; a space that always growsand hence a place where people like to stay.
