TASML｜DSL Artist Residence Award:  Call for Proposals

With the support of DSL Collection (http://dslcollection.com), the renowned art collection specialized in contemporary Chinese art, the award is conceived to provide emerging Chinese media artists with an unique opportunity to engage with cutting edge research and production in the intersection of art, science and technology in some of the most innovative media art and design laboratories from around the world. From March of 2011 till February of 2013, two artists will be selected annually.  The awardees will receive a US$4000 (RMB 26500) stipend to compensate for travel, accommodation and living expenses in the residence country. An international jury will decide the winners of the award based on the merits of the proposed projects.

CALL FOR RESEARCH RESIDENCY PROPOSALS

In collaboration with ZKM | Center for Art and Media, TASML is pleased to announce a call for artist in residency research proposals.

As a cultural institution, the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, Germany holds a unique position in the world. It responds to the rapid developments in information technology and today's changing social structures. Its work combines production and research, exhibitions and events, coordination and documentation.

For the development of interdisciplinary projects and promotion of international collaborations, the Center for Art and Media has manifold resources at its disposal: the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Media Museum, the Institute for Visual Media, the Institute for Music and Acoustics and the Institute for Media, Education, and Economics.

This residence program partners with ZKM’s Institute of Music and Acoustics as the core collaborator. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to utilize some of the most advanced acoustic technologies including cutting edge sound-dome facilities (http://www.zkm.de/zirkonium). This residence exposes the selected artist to the rich intellectual and creative environment at the ZKM as well as offering technical assistance and will be an invaluable experience for the candidate’s career development.

Artists working with sound and spatial sound environments or with interactive media involving sensors and telematics and other innovative technologies are encouraged to submit their proposals. An international jury will select the awardee.

The proposal should include a general artist statement, project description, research objectives and area of technical investigation. Past work samples (through a web link) and a complete CV are requested as supplementary material. Applicants should have sufficient knowledge of English language for communication. All materials must be submitted in English to:tasml.tsinghua@gmail.com.

The successful candidate will receive US$4000 cash award to assist in travel and living costs for a period of 6 weeks. Accommodation during the residence is generously provided by ZKM.

The deadline for submission is September 20, 2012

The residence is projected to begin in late October 2012

About the DSL Collection

The DSL Collection was created in 2005 and focuses on contemporary Chinese art.  It is a private collection representing 90 of the leading Chinese avant-garde artists, artists having a major influence on the development of contemporary art in China today. Even though focusing on the contemporary production of a specific culture, the collection is nevertheless not guided by the search for otherness. It admits basic cultural similarities and dispositions, however, goes beyond a simplistic approach looking for typical cultural signs and symbols.
