Exhibitions:

The launch of the 2010 Caochangdi PhotoSpring will take place from April 17th through 21st. During this week of festivities, each of the partnering Caochangdi galleries will host different activities, such as exhibition openings, lectures, evening concerts, documentary film screenings, and slideshows. The opening week of the 2010 Caochangdi PhotoSpring will also feature the announcement of the 2010 Three Shadows Photography Award winner, the presentation of the 2009 Discovery Award of Arles Laureate, a symposium on Photography: Creativity vs. the Market, artist open studios, as well as portfolio reviews by a panel of international photography professionals. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with photography professionals from China and abroad. All events will be open to the public.

PHOTOFOLIO REVIEW: AN EXPERIENCED EYE ON YOUR WORK

- LAUREATES OF PHOTOFOLIO WILL HAVE EXHIBITION OF THEIR WORK AND PUBLICATION IN MODERN WEEKLY MAGAZINE.

APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION PROCESS

The Photofolio Review provides a rare opportunity to share your work with photography experts and receive their feedback. The reviewers come from diverse backgrounds in photography, ranging from museum curators, to critics, to directors of various photography magazines and international photo festivals. All experts in their respective fields, they will offer their expertise during this series of face-to-face meetings. Many international experts will come to Beijing specifically to participate in this unique photo event. This is an excellent opportunity for exchange, dialogue and constructive criticism that should be seen as a fruitful experience through which you can improve your work.

During the opening week, April 19 & 20 will be dedicated to the evaluation of aspiring photographers’ portfolios, at the Photofolio Review.

Application Process
100 candidates will be selected.

Submission Process (Part 1):

1.The applicants will submit 10 works by mail or email before April 8, 2010 :

2.A pre-selection will be done and applicants will be notified within two days of receipt of their works if they have been selected.

Registration Process (Part 2):

1.Selected applicants will provide 500RMB to confirm registration. Payment should be made via wire transfer. We will send the relevant account information to accepted applicants by email.

2.Once payment has been confirmed, selected applicants will then select the desired reviewers according to availability.

Photographers will select 8 of the 16 reviewers to meet with in 20 minutes sessions to introduce their work. Portfolios can be shown either digitally or in print.

Reviewer Selection Process (Part 3)

1.Applicants will select reviewers by phone 010 5978 9189 between March 25 and April 9. Please prepare your list of preferred reviewers before calling.

*Notice: some of the reviewers will not be available for the entire two days of the Photofolio review. To ensure that you are able to meet with your desired viewers, be sure to call early. Appointments are made on a first come, first serve basis.

2.Applicant’s schedules will be determined according to the availability of the reviewers. When calling, you will be notified directly of your schedule.

*Notice: make sure to write down the schedule for each of your 8 meetings. You will not receive any additional confirmation or notification.

    The Two Day Photofolio Review will take place at the Photofolio House. The Photofolio House is located in Caochangdi art district in a complex designed by Ai Weiwei housing several art galleries. The Photofolio House will be open everyday from 10am to 6pm during the Photofolio Review process, April 19-20.

    Benefits for the participants: one free print

    Hewlett Packard will offer each of the 100 participants one free print of one of their work.

    Notice: participants will be asked to send their work early before the event in order to prepare it for the printing process (specific format).

    Award: exhibition and magazine publication

    Each reviewer will select his/her preferred portfolio.

    At the end of the Photofolio Review, 3 outstanding portfolios will be selected :

    -For exhibition at the Photofolio House until the end of June.

    -Publication of the 3 portfolios in Modern Weekly magazine’s 2010 September edition.

    Advice for Selected Applicants

    -Prepare a selection of your works to show to the reviewers.

    -Save time during each session by preparing (in advance) a brief and efficient presentation on your work. This will allow more time for listening to feedback and asking questions.

    -Be on time for each of your review sessions.

    -Bring some materials (CD, prints, catalogues) representing your work to leave with your reviewers in case they wish to contact you later.

      -If possible, exchange contact information with your reviewers in order to facilitate further exchange in the future.
