2008年12月15日，在伦敦设计博物馆举办的一场辩论中，我曾引用一首写在北京CCTV工地的水泥柱上的民工诗：
斜楼啊斜楼
你是世界的举名，
中国的伟大，
把我们农民工从四面八方，
五湖四海招在了你的身边；
是我们的骄傲，
不论你有多高，
我们是跟你干到底。
我们农民工是伟大的，
无论在什么角落，
都有我们的民工兄弟。
是我们农民工把国家建成了美丽的舞台。
在朗诵了这首诗后，我说：”这首诗歌透露了中国之所以能够崛起的秘诀。在这个人口众多、权力集中的国度里，成功的政治动员已经培殖出深入骨髓的精神认同，人们乐意向国家奉献而且深感自豪。我这样说并不是在赞美执政党的治国之道，而是向大家指出，在中国的普罗大众身上，有一种由来已久的美德，它虽然有一种悲剧的意味，却是引导中国不断上升的最重要的力量。“
A Poem Written by a Migrant Worker on the CCTV Site
On the concrete column of the construction site of CCTV tower in Beijing, a poem written by a migrant worker was found：
Leaning tower, leaning tower
You are famous in the world,
you are the greatness of China,
our migrant workers come together for you,
from all over China,
you are the pride of us.
No matter how high you are,
we will fight with you.
Our migrant workers are great,
we are everywhere.
It’s us to build this country a beautiful stage…
The poem discloses the keys of the rising of China: in the country with large population and centralized power, political mobilization has successfully cultivated spiritual agreement deep to the bone. People like to contribute to the country and feel proud of it. I don't mean to praise the rule of Communist Party of China, but to point it out to you all, that the general public of China have a long-standing virtue, though it has a sense of tragedy, it's the most important power to drive China up.

显然，这首诗的作者还带着小学课本式的朴素情怀，哈哈

“是我们农民工把国家建成了美丽的舞台。” — 国家美不美丽一件事，但是看到这句，又想起农民工的生存状况，觉得很凄凉。这句话甚至连怨怼都不是，只是他们在无法接近之处的冷静叙述。
