About Duolun MOMA:
　　Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art is a multi-functional and non-profit institution of culture and art, providing services to the development of Chinese contemporary art and a platform for the international exchange of contemporary art. It takes “originality, academic and internationalism” as its guideline, and “inheriting historical culture, renovating contemporary art” as its aim. Being the first professional modern museum of contemporary art in China, Duolun Museum of Modern Art seeks to exhibit the creative achievements of modern art, promote the culture and art exchange between China and foreign countries, go in for the academic research on contemporary art, popularize the education of modern art and thus to fulfill the five major functions of exhibition, research, education, collection and communication.
　　The first governmental modern museum, Duolun Museum of Modern Art, provides a platform to promote the development of China’s contemporary art with great mission and responsibility. Support is welcome from any enterprise, organization, group and individual that long for forging ahead the development and exchange of contemporary art. Only with such support can we make contribution to the prosperity and renovation of contemporary art.

A Brief Introduction to the Exhibition
　　December 28 2008 is a jubilant day of the fifth anniversary of the construction of Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Arts. As a large-scale Modern group exhibition spanning years, the photographs, written materials, publicity literature and part of the collections in the museum which were created by the most representative artists of Modern arts in Shanghai, and which reflect the historical fragments of the development of Chinese Modern art and the past 5 years of Duolun, are exhibited in the form of visuals on the third floor of Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Arts.

The 30 years witnessing the reform and open policy is actually a process of the developing mind opening and ideological liberation, and the contemporaneous Modern culture and arts are the main power in the process. Since 30 years ago culture and art have been especially active. Cultural individual and association challenge our tradition, participate in the social development and form a series of events and phenomena in the way of art or non-art. The development of the past 5 years of Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Arts and Chinese Modern art will be unfolded before the public in the form of retrospection as a review and summary of the lapse of 5 years of Duolun Museum and also an opportunity which allows our friends supporting the growth of our museum for years to know more about the culture and art exhibition in the museum at this historic moment.

The works of the artists from Shanghai and surrounding areas are exhibited on the ground floor, the artists are Yu Youhan, Li Shan, Ding Yi, Zhou Tiehai, Zhang Enli, Shen fan, Hu Jieming, Yang Fudong, Yang Zhenzhong, Xu Zheng, Song Tao and Sun Xun. They not only reflect the growth of Modern artists in Shanghai, but also are the main force of the participants in the development of Chinese Modern art in the recent decade. The growing vein of native Modern art is unfolded more clearly. It s retrospection, but a new trial as well.

Abandoning the concept of works, we choose "relics" as the theme of the exhibition on the second floor. Sensations and works are not exhibited directly, but unfolded through the stuff experiencing these events, more accurately, all kinds of relics like a case, clothes, a toy, a picture, an oil painting, a document. All of the exhibits are stripped of their dazzling coats, transformed from the form of visually simulating, huge, high-tech, intelligent, delicate works to those austere and sober to narrate and restore the pieces of historical fragments. When the fragments are collagen with these stuff and showing a period of history in the latitude of time and space, these stuff are naturally turning into the relics witnessing the history, on the other hand, we can read a variety of artistic and aesthetic features of a time behind these relics themselves, but if they do not represent any events, they become garbage automatically.?

The section of literature on the third floor mainly sorts and exhibits the exhibition history of our museum in the past 5 years and some important academic lectures chronologically, and simultaneously displays photograph albums. Besides these written materials, we manipulate video technique and dictate to the audience, focusing on the interviews where the interviewees have witnessed the development of the museum. With the combination of written and audio materials, the development of the museum is unfolded more clearly.
