Nanjing “Weightlessness” Contemporary Art Exhibit
Nanjing “Weightlessness” Contemporary Art Exhibition
Place:Najing Museum, Nanjing, China
Exhibition Date: November 1, 2008
Deadline of submission: September 30, 2008
Concept:
Although “weightlessness ” is originally a physics terminology, it could also be recognized as a psychological state of “weightlessness ” , a feeling people experiencing with senses of floating and rootless. This feeling of uncertainty tightly suffocates our souls, no mater where we are in the world,
The world is changing. China is experiencing this change with a “ supper speed ” . The change brings prosperity to China , as well as the “ speedy reflection ”: the psychological feeling of weightlessness. While the old social structure, social relationship, and economic system had been changed, it also leaded to the collapsing of our value system resulting in the breakdown of its culture and intellectuality. This is an uncomfortable psychological reflection, which processes a feeling of directionless and groundlessness. We are experiencing this process and we are part of the process now.
Art and culture is the reflection of the relationship between humans, human and history, and human and society. When contemporary art reflects the breakdown of contemporary culture, time demands instant recordings and presentations of such phenomenon.
Our goal of this bi-location exhibition is to search for a mirror of comparison, which hopefully could discover our reason of uncertainty deep in our souls. Artists, a group of highly sensitive individuals, will naturally and certainly experience, understand and express such state of “ weightlessness ” in our humanity. Therefore, we are inviting artists around the world who are interested in this subject to display their feelings and thoughts. Maybe your participation would add some weight to the theme of “ weightlessness ” .
