Chinese multidisciplinary artist Qiu Anxiong seeks truth in this materialistic world with an installation that discusses the relationship of production and art. He questions whether the producer-consumer system conduces or hinders creativity. Qiu's installation, in collaboration with "The Logues" and Li Xiao Hua, will launch Contrasts Gallery's new 1,400 sq. meter exhibition space in the burgeoning arts district of Xian Feng Industrial Park. Hundreds of sculpted fiberglass dogs will illustrate a Chinese perspective in response to Western fears of globalization and competition. The installation will be complimented with work by Chinese writer Mian Mian, musician B6, and designer Peter Ting, among others.
Everything started when a Western company ordered the production of numerous dogs sculptures for an event in France... The client only took a small part of the work and left the rest unpaid in China...
