Schoeni Art Gallery is delighted to invite you to view our 15th Anniversary celebratory exhibition, “RE-collection, A Retrospective Look at 15 years of Art and Vision.” Since the inception of Schoeni Art Gallery, we've seen tremendous growth and dynamism in the contemporary Chinese art market. “Re-collection,” is an exhibition that celebrates the art and life that lives on in our gallery, it is a recollection of past achievements, just as it is a tribute to the collective progress that continues. We are pleased to re-invite 31 artists who worked with us in the past, alongside our 10 exclusive artists, to exhibit at our anniversary exhibition

    .
The unique achievements of our artists over the years have burgeoned in ways only materialising now, and we are proud to be able to show you paintings from private collections as well as previously unseen works alongside one another, illuminating 15 years of artistic development from some of our established artists, as well as notable beginnings for our newer artists. We are also publishing a comprehensive in-depth catalogue of all of our gallery’s participating, associated and exclusive artists, which aims to supply an educational model and reference text for art enthusiasts and historians alike.

Such an ambitious achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and entrepreneurial vision of our late founder, Manfred Schoeni. When Schoeni Art Gallery opened its doors to the public in 1992, Manfred Schoeni forged an unprecedented artistic liaison with China and exhibited seminal works of the contemporary Chinese art movement internationally.15 years on, the success of these artists today bares testament to his pioneering spirit – Manfred Schoeni is lovingly remembered by many as a devoted patron to the arts.

Schoeni’s work is of great historical significance, being one of the first galleries to bring contemporary Chinese art out of China. Yue Min Jin, Zhong Biao and Yang Shao Bin, to mention a few, all had their debut exhibitions abroad at the gallery in 1996, and have since become iconic symbols of the Chinese Avant-Garde. Another great achievement was Schoeni’s conception of, and participation in, the "8+8-1: Selected paintings by 15 Artists" which included artists such as Zeng Fan Zhi, Wang Guang Yi and Liu Xiao Dong – this was displayed at 5 different venues around the world. Schoeni Art Gallery was also instrumental in the orchestration of two touring exhibitions of Chinese contemporary art, “China!” which was exhibited at major museums in Germany, Austria, Singapore and Amsterdam and “Chinart” which was exhibited over a two-year period (2002 – 2004) at major museums in Germany, Italy, Hungary, Poland and Spain.

For the past 3 years, Nicole Schoeni has stood firm at the helm of Schoeni Art Gallery, dedicating her energies towards the important developments in contemporary Chinese art and she continues to focus on promoting the study, discovery, understanding and appreciation of contemporary Chinese art, as well as other contemporary art forms worldwide from younger and established artists. Since her debut on the contemporary art scene, Nicole Schoeni has achieved merit for her work in actively preserving, documenting and circulating dynamic collections of the remarkable potential that we have seen in the Chinese art market.

Nicole Schoeni’s latest artists, Shen Hua, Liu Hong Yuan and Zhao Fang have all been lauded for their broad technical complexity by international publications and collectors alike. Nicole Schoeni has ambitious plans to broaden the gallery’s approach to dynamic exhibition programs so as to include a wider base of younger collectors and investors, emphasising educational initiative and community involvement. Nicole Schoeni is making her dream of ensuring that Schoeni Art Gallery is internationally recognised as preeminent in the field of contemporary art a reality, and strives to bring a deeper awareness of the profound vitality and intricate complexities of contemporary art to the widest possible audience.

“RE-collection,” commemorates more than 15 years of achievement, it celebrates the power of art to transcend time, and international boundary – fusing together the vitality of the exciting movements in contemporary art, with the magnetism of a growing global audience. Over 20 artists have been invited by the gallery to attend the exhibition, which will be an excellent opportunity to meet some of the creators of contemporary China’s iconic images and artworks.
