ComPeung's artist-in-residence program

ComPeung is the first non-governmental artist-in-residence program in Thailand. ComPeung was founded in 2005 by art professionals who strongly believe places that defy the mainstream art's “obsession” with commerce rather than content are needed. Alternative places that experiment with and questioning the role of art, artists' positions, and the interdependence of art and society. ComPeung aspires to be one of these places, open to all who share the seriousness and the compassion for creativity.
Located just outside of Chiang Mai (Doi Saket) with its ever growing vibrant art scene and many facets of alternative lifestyles, ComPeung, a nonprofit organization, invites interested artists and content providers to submit their proposals for a residency @ ComPeung. We also welcome collaborative ideas, suggestions and proposals for future collaborations as well as constructive feedback and comments. To keep in touch of what is happening at ComPeung, please check out our regularly updated website.
For more information about ComPeung contact us by email [email]compeung@gmail.comor visit our website [url]www.compeung.org

The ComPeung Artist-in-Residence Program is designed for local and international artists to live and work together with our team and the local community. Interested artists are encouraged to apply by providing ComPeung with a preliminary proposal of her/his/their art work or project. As a work-in-progress we understand that the proposed project might change in the process.

Aims
By living and working together in basic yet comfortable conditions with our team, the local communities and a broad spectrum of artists, the ComPeung program provides the resident artists with a wide range of exchanges, opportunities, experiences and possibilities. ComPeung envisions to be an open playground for dialogs, alternative contexts, experiments, explorations, and mutual learning. The aspired goal for ComPeung is to develop and expand into a network of artists and art organizations on local, regional and international levels.

Facilities
We don't provide fancy cocktail bars, king-size beds or cable TV. What we do provide are the necessities of living in a rural, tropical area such as genuine hospitality, mosquito nets, running water, electricity and fresh produce from the local market.
By providing home-cooked meals, accommodation and studio spaces, our team will maintain a level of comfort and renowned Thai hospitality. As ComPeung is a modest self-sustainable non-profit organization, residents will be asked to participate in the maintenance of the site, if necessary. Such a practice also propagates our idea of finding inspiration in daily, lived experience.

All participants play an important role here as we have to help one another maintaining the space. ComPeung is a space for people who have serious visions and questions about the creative process. If you are simply looking for a short holiday, this is not the place for you. As a small organization with limited facilities, presently we cannot cater for more than 2 artists at once. However, we hope to provide more space and opportunities for more artists in the near future. When applying online or by mail, artists should submit the following documents:
Application Form (download)
1 Passport Photo
Curriculum Vitae (2 pages A4)
Artist Statement (max. 250 words)
CD-Rom of 10 - 20 images (300 dpi), sound, video/animation files and/or Power Point file edited up to 20 min max. in PAL format. All files must be saved in PC compatible formats. Please attach all the word documents (except application form) in a separated folder and save on the same CD.
Other possible attached materials: Video tape (PAL), printed pictures, catalogs, press clippings, books.
