西五艺术中心将于2011年7月2日至7月24日举办王秉赋先生绘画作品展，本次展览从他的六个重要人物系列作品中各选出十余张精彩作品展出。王秉复，字常道，先生1936年出生于天津，1961年毕业于中央美术学院国画系，作品的创作多取材于中国古典诗词、文章人物典故及京剧人物。先生的系列作品多则如《龙纹鞭影》五百八十余张，少则如《聊斋》一百张，皆以人物绘画为主，每一幅作品都是在叙述一个故事，简单到一种轻描淡写的深刻。
在他的画作中，我们感受到人类的多种情感。或坚贞、或豪迈、或诙谐、或无奈，没有了简单粗暴的说教，一些微观情感慢慢渗透到画作中来，向观众呈现出一个个活脱脱的人。你时常不关心或干脆忘记他是怎么画的，你完全被他表现的人在特定事件中的际遇所打动，“哦，人就是这样的。。。”无论古人、今人，无论外国人、中国人。你感受到作为一个人的真实存在，就像读完萨特的剧本会为不同人的际遇唏嘘不已。古人与人物有关的文献并非非黑即白、非扬即抑。很多诸如《世说新语》之类的文本已经借类似口语化的简化语言直指心性，那些旷达、明理、孤傲、怪诞、贪欲、猥琐的人跃然纸上，王先生在对这些古文献的阅读中找到了自己的契合点，他向世人展示了全方位的人。。。

C5Art is presenting [Fragments of Epic], an ink painting exhibition of Mr. Wang Bingfu from 2th July until 24th July. The exhibition features a dozen outstanding pieces from each of the artist’s six main figure series. Mr. Wang Bingfu, also known as Chang Dao, was born in 1936, in Tianjin. In 1961 he graduated from the traditional Chinese painting department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Many of his works are based on classical Chinese poems, referencing figures found in classical essays and Peking opera. As many as 580 works from The Reading Classic of Longwen Bianying and no fewer than 100 works from the classic, Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio, take the figure as their focus. Each work recounts a story, leaving viewers an impression that is at once subtle and profound.
In his painting, we sense a variety of human emotions – unyielding faith, bold generosity, humor and resignation. Instead of reductive preaching, nuanced feelings gradually seep to the surface, presenting to the audience a human being in all his dimensions. Often times you do not care or you simply forget to wonder about how he did it technically because you are fully engaged by the story of his characters in particular situations. “Oh, so this is what a person is like …”; whether he comes from ancient or modern times, whether he is a foreigner or Chinese, none of that matters. You feel the real sense of being as a human, just like how you marvel at the fortunes of different characters after reading a play by Sartre. Depiction of human characters in ancient literature is neither black nor white, neither good nor bad. Many texts such as A New Account of Tales of the World contain poignant examinations of the nature of the heart by using semi-colloquial language to tell the stories of a rich variety of characters, including the broad-minded, the sensible, the proud and aloof, the whimsical, the greedy and the wretched. Mr. Wang was able to find a point of connection between these ancient literatures and his own perspective, which laid the foundation for his rendition of what it is like to be fully human…
