Opencall: World Contemporary Photography Archive Exhibition I
Independent & Image Art Space is located in 501 ArtBase, Jiulongpo District Chongqing (China), which is the most mature andimportant art zone in Chongqing, next door to the old campus of Sichuan FineArts Institute, one of China’s top art universities. Since the foundation,Independent & Image Art Space has been paying close attention to thedevelopment of Chinese contemporary art, especially the contemporaryphotography art. Towards the world and based in China, with an open attitudeand unique art vision, Independent & Image Art Space is engaged into theprogress and practice of contemporary art. During the years, it presentednumerous exhibitions of contemporary photography and related lectures, seminarsand salon activities etc. It actively promotes and takes part in the academicstudy, promotion and education of contemporary photography art in China. NowIndependent & Image Art Space has become one of the most important platformof the contemporary photography art communication in China’s Southwest area.
In2016 Independent & Image Art Space opens a new non-profit art project:World Contemporary Photography Archive. Starting from an internationallymulti-cultural perspective, this project aims to catch the frontiers ofcontemporary photography art worldwide, to present, exhibit and archive theoutstanding contemporary photography artists and their works in current times,so as to create a rich content, academically valuable archive with a long timelasting efforts. World Contemporary Photography Archive will help the Chinesesociety to get more and deeper understanding of contemporary photography art,to enhance the communication of contemporary photography art between China andthe world, and also to provide valuable research resources for contemporaryphotography academics study. What’s more, taking the project World ContemporaryPhotography Archive as an opportunity, Independent & Image Art Space willhost a series of art educational activities, making more people feel the charmof contemporary photography art and making the art walk into people’s life.
WorldContemporary Photography Archive Exhibition I will organize through an opencall to internationally artists with no limit of theme, nationality and age. Independent& Image Art Space will select the works to exhibit from all submissions.All the selected works and artists’ profile will be published on the website ofIndependent & Image Art Space (https://independentimage.org),permanently and continuously exhibiting on the above website. The selectedworks will be printed and framed by Independent & Image Art Space, andexhibited at World Contemporary Photography Archive Exhibition I.After the exhibition, Independent & Image Art Space will collect the worksfree of charge, exhibit the collected contemporary photographic works on aregular basis. Independent & Image Art Space plans to publish relatedcatalogs and art documentary books to systematize the documents and materialsin the WorldContemporary Photography Archive.
EXHIBITIONDATES AND PLACE
Dates: February 18, 2017 – March 17, 2017
Opening:Saturday February 18, 2017 from 4-6pm
Place:Independent &Image Art Space, 501 Art Base, No.126 Huangjueping Main Street, JiulongpoDistrict, Chongqing, China.
ELIGIBILITY
Artists worldwide working on contemporary photography, at any stage of theircareers may apply.There is not limit of nationality and age.
IMAGE SUBMISSION
Only the works created with the media of photography is accepted. There is nolimit on the theme. Works must be created after 2010.
Submitup to 20 works image in JPEGS. The JPEGS files must be labeled as follows:title _sizeincm_year.jpg. For example, Untitled_60x1500px_2012.jpg.
The JPEGS should be at 300dpi with a size less than 2MB.
WORKS AT EXHIBITION
Independent & Image Art Space will select the works to exhibit from allsubmissions. The selected works will be printed and framed by Independent &Image Art Space, and exhibited at World Contemporary Photography Archive Exhibition I. Theexhibited size of the selected works will be decided by Independent & ImageArt Space, and will be communicated to the selected artists when notifying theselection result.
Theselected artists should provide the high resolution and big size digital filesfor printing. After printing, these digital files will be deleted. Independent& Image Art Space will not reserve any high resolution and big size digitalimage files of the artists.
Afterthe exhibition, Independent & Image Art Space will collect the works freeof charge, provide the artists collection certificates, exhibit the collectedcontemporary photographic works on a regular basis, and support activities likecontemporary photography academic study and art education with the collectedworks. The collected works will not be used for sale or for any commercialpurposes. All the selected works and artists’ profile will be published on thewebsite of Independent & Image Art Space (https://independentimage.org), permanentlyand continuously exhibiting on the above website.

Thereis a processing fee of $50 to submit - payable via Paypal to: artiias@qq.com.

The selected artists will not pay other costs. The artists will be responsible for theirown expenses for attending the exhibition and its opening.

Please submit one ZIP file labeled as Surname_Givenname.zip, for exampleSmith_John.zip, and send to the email: artiias@qq.com. The ZIP file shouldinclude：
- filledand signed application form (see the attachment);
- onephoto of artist, within 1MB;
- upto 20 image digital files as required above;
-payment receipt of entry fee.
DEADLINE
The open call will close on midnight (GMT +8 Beijing time)December 30, 2016.
RESULT
The selection result will be sent to the email address provided by each artistin the application form before January 20, 2017.
