Elementary Spectacle: a collaborative exhibition of Shi Qing & Shao Yi

Opening:10 July 2010, Saturday ( 4pm - 6pm )
Duration:11 July ~ 20 August, 2010
ShanghART H-Space, 50 Moganshan Rd. Bldg.18, Shanghai

One is an artist with a scientific researcher nature, one is the initiator of “The Small Production”: Elementary Spectacle, an exhibition by Shi Qing and Shao Yi, presents different artificial landscapes, or more precisely, defines ecosystems specific to each of the two artists.

Shi Qing’s “Geographic system” is composed of polyurethane foam, gypsum, flour, bricks, corrugated cardboards and other low-cost daily materials, that are ephemeral, fragile, ancillary and modifiable. “Geographic system” isn’t a mere reproduction inspired from real Nature, but a rejection of a landscape by the artist’s visual political system. These last two years Shi Qing made use of the creating strategy “retreat in order to advance”, meditating on an abstract system through landscapes’ configuration and occurrence, stability and evolution. This system is issued from the imitation of nature, where various materials are flowing, being covered, hollowed, corroded and fermented reflecting the in and out dynamic relation of the system.

Shao Yi’s works are composed of traditional auspicious patterns, modern industrial molds, folk amulets and even administrative badges. From two and three-dimensional works to installations, Shao Yi builds a unique system of faith-related symbols. He turns auspicious patterns such as Ru yi, Yuan bao, Pi xiu and bats into abstract creatures or decorative landscape paintings, while modern industrial wood molds are reassembled into curious and extravagant totemic sculptures. Daily ready-mades or amulets are displayed on one side of wooden billboards, expanding common materials’ numerous evocative possibilities.

Shi Qing, born in 1969 in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, lives and works in Beijing. Shi Qing’s research based creative process is quite unique amongst Chinese artists today. His work has constantly evolved in content and form. His explorations include the psychology of symbolism and ritual, the social contexts of personal history, urban politics, global economic histories and their effect of culture, and the relationship on Chinese recent history of globalization. A selection of major exhibitions in which Shi Qing has participated includes: Santa Fe Biennale (U.S.A, 2008), Guangzhou Triennial (China, 2005), Prague Biennale (Czech Republic, 2005), Busan Biennale (Korea, 2004).

Shao Yi was born in Hang Zhou in 1967, he lives and works in Hang Zhou and Shanghai. Recent exhibitions include "Light Fogging" Shao Yi Solo Exhibition, BizArt Center, shanghai (2008). Things from the gallery warehouse, ShangART H-Space, Shanghai (2009), Contemporary Art Exhibition in Songjiang, Songjiang Creative Studio, Shanghai (2009).

Today, a large number of people are tending towards the usage of ceramic tiles for construction purposes as the cleaning and maintaining process of these tiles take a little bit

time. Their finishing and air tightening properties make them durable pieces of rock.

http://www.ceramictile-outlet.com/category-838-b0-Rustic+Tile.html Ceramic floor and wall tiles only collapse by acids because CaCO3 is disturbed by acids. These tiles can be

placed at various places of the homes and offices like walls, floors, kitchens and bathrooms as they give an attractive finishing to the interior and come in different colours,

shapes and sizes.
