Lu Hao
Curator of the Chinese Pavilion of the Venice Biennale

Artist Lu Hao, has been chosen as the curator of the Chinese Pavilion. On his way to Venice he was interviewed by a journalist in Paris.

Lu Hao told the journalist that the reason of his trip to Venice was to see with the Biennale organizer how to solve issues relating exhibition mounting.

"I think this is like giving a slap to Chinese people, we have to reply to the Italians and take up the challenge".

As for the artists selection, Lu Hao said "I won't choose the type of artists who are very 'clever', for me these artists who are very good in producing lack of fondamental artists' values, no matter the quality of the works, as long as I can see a glimpse of its 'cleverness', I would strick off the name of the list. I like artist who are more perceptual, they always maintain their quest, and are very enthusiastic."

Lu Hao chose the painter, He Jinwei, born in Sichuan living in Beijing, as a participating artist, his work "Dedicate me this world" is made of 150 to 200 paintings, portraits of children and orphans from the earthquake in Sichuan.

The 53rd Venice Biennale will be held from June 7th to November 22nd, 2009.
