Event Description

Night @ RAM will present two film screenings for the next weekend. They are Gao Zipeng’s first full length feature film called Lost in Mountain, and Zhao Chuan’s documentary film Beijing Beerism that produced years ago. Both of the films are about a same literature community in Beijing. One of the films is implicit and the other is straightforward; one is void and clear, and the other is abundant. It is those people’s determined life attitude helped to bring about the creation of these two films. They provide us an alternative angle to understand the reality, which is also the inspiration that Shanghai Rockbund Art Museum wishes to bring to the audiences. Further introduction to the directors and discussion will be followed after the screening of each film.

Lost in Mountain (2011. China. Gao Zipeng. 94min. Chinese and English Subtitles.)

The feature film Lost in Mountain, directed by Gao Zipeng, has had its national premiere in March 27, 2011 at UCCA in Beijing. This screening is its Shanghai premiere. The film is starring by poet Ajian and writer Gouzi.

Over old trees wreathed with withered vines fly crows;

Under a small bridge beside a cot a stream flows;

On ancient road in western breeze a lean horse goes.

Westwards declines the setting sun.

Far, far from home is the heart-broken one.

The film tries to express its meaning by establishing an analogy between a missing in reality and a short lyrical poem called Tune to "Sand and Sky": Autumn Thoughts, written by Ma Zhiyuan, a distinguished Yuan Dynasty dramatist. The director will be attending the screening and lead a discussion with the audience.

Synopsis:
In search of a friend named Bie Lei, Da Ta, together with Chang Bai, Yu Wei and Xiao Manzi, explore the mining area in Beijing’s western suburban. Bie Lei has been missing for six months now. They walk along the Ancient West Peking Path, and the searching is more like a visit. At night, the four set up a bonfire. Da Ta takes the lead in singing a favorite song of Bie Lei. Affected by the song or by Bie Lei, Xiao Manzi leaves alone, drunk.
