艺术有毒？



艺术家杨千总是喜欢送给观众一些意想不到的意外。“艺术有毒？”即将构成他最近个人艺术展的最大疑点。当人们看到这个主题，总会问，艺术家究竟想干什么？今天的艺术究竟变成了什么样子？据说，这是一个观众必须借助道具、改变行头才能参观、感受、欣赏的奇特展览。杨千并不是在卖关子。

“艺术有毒？”，题中之义，这个艺术展览也许有毒，也许无毒，评判权在于亲临展览的观众。“有毒？”是关键、是悬疑。也许，艺术家不是在作品材料中动了手脚，让其充满了风险，就是改变了展厅的某种格局和结构。也许，观众在部分感官被过滤的情形下，感知力可能会稍微遇到些障碍，但第六感也许由此激活。这种展览主题，足以唤起人的一种好奇心。无疑，艺术家企图借助另类的氛围预设和奇观营造，面向观众的观看经验及其对艺术作品的体验方式作出一种挑战；同时也针对大众推崇唯美、温文尔雅的审美习性提出一种质疑。个体艺术家的作品，不再如笼子里的小鸟一样成为供人端详、把玩的对象。杨千想的，也许是把艺术展览打造成一个批判现实、反省文化思潮的现场，“有毒”的概念则是他最大的着力点。展览的主题释放出观众想像的无限空间。艺术家颠覆了把观众当成上帝的正统观看制度，但又隐去了艺术高高在上的精英姿态。杨千把挑战难度的机会交给了观众，吸引众人以一种探索、冒险的心理进入他2010年4月17日至5月9日在北京798白盒子艺术馆“私设”的艺术秘境。那么，届时你会来试一试吗？




Is Art Poisonous?



Artist Yang Qian is keen on offering his audience unforeseen surprises. Is Art Poisonous? unquestionably, raises his recent point in question amongst his solo exhibitions. “What does the artist want to do? And what has art become today?” will be ultimately posed as the audience encounters this title. Apparently, it is a spectacular exhibition that requires the audience to use props and costumes in order to view, experience and appreciate the show, for which Yang Qian is not keeping everyone in suspense.



Is Art Poisonous implies the possible poisonous nature of this exhibition - a decision should be made by its audience. “Poisonous” is the key and suspense. The artist has not used sleight of hand on the material in order to make the artwork dangerous. Rather, he has changed the various layout and structures of the exhibition venue. As the audience’s senses become filtered, their sensibility would encounter certain hindrance, thus evoking their sixth sense. The title of the exhibition alone is enough to arouse people’s curiosity. No doubt, the artist is posing a challenge to the audience’s viewing experience and tampering with the experiential factor of the artwork while appropriating an alternative atmosphere and artist’s rendition of a spectacle. At the same time, this exhibition also reveals the artist’s skepticism towards the aesthetic inclination of the beautiful and cultured. Individual artist’s work should not be like that of a caged bird that is objectified and toyed with. What Yang Qian had in mind is to render an art exhibition into a site where reality can be criticized and cultural ideas can be contemplated. The concept of “poisonous” is his main point of entrance. Thematically, it allows the audience to enter an infinite space of imagination. The artist subverts the doctrinal principle of treating the audience as God, hitherto effacing the preconceived attitude of art is for the elite.. Yang Qian hands an opportunity of challenge to the audience, calling on viewers to enter the “private” artistic secret realm with an exploring and adventurous spirit to his exhibition at the Whitebox Museum in 798, from April 17th to May 9th, 2010, would you dare to come experience it?
