Gallery EXIT will be participating in Art HK 09. New works by Hong Kong artist LIN Xue and Mainland Chinese emerging artist MEI Zijia, will be exhibited.

Self-taught, Hong Kong-based LIN Xue creates ink works on paper with a razor sharp bamboo blade, revealing the soft inner voices of nature. Oscillating between a macro and micro perspective, the minute scale of Lin’s drawings is at odds with his inexhaustible subject matter – nature. The surfaces are vivacious in their intensely rich details. LIN Xue draws, making small marks that form lines. As the lines capture and freeze time bit by bit with an awareness of joy, they join together to form plants, creatures, conglomerations and landscapes. A cosmic celebration thus unfolds before our eyes. It is an invitation to look into inside and hear that which has not been named, to hear the sound of silence.

There are hints and early signs of a Chinese Gothic style emerging in MEI Zijia’s violent and enigmatic paintings. The overlapping layers of black and white photo imagery are brought into sharp contrast with the colorful, eye-dizzying conglomeration of fragmented anatomic figures, flowers, butterflies, newspaper clippings, and cartoon icons.

LIN Xue and MEI Zijia will be present at the Gallery EXIT booth E11 on May 13 and 14, 2009. Both artists are available for interview during the period.

Gallery EXIT will also present IYOIYO, the solo exhibition of Kyoto-based Korean artist Hyon Gyon on May 15 – June 27, 2009 at the gallery.
