Twenty-year Anniversary of China Avant-Garde Art


On the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of Chinese Modern Art, an exhibition was organized on the 5th of February in the National Agriculture Exhibition Center, the Wall Art Museum and the Today Art Museum.

The anniversary celebration was supposed to be held in the National Agriculture Exhibition Center, while the documentary part was to be displayed in the Wall Art Museum. Also, a ceremony of "The Seven Deadly Sins" was prepared to be presented prior to the opening ceremony in the Today Art Museum.

The original exhibition which constituted a turning point in the fine art history of China presented latest works by numerous pioneers of Chinese contemporary art, who belong nowadays to the main stream. 20 years later, in commemoration of Avant-garde art's birth in China, Gao Minglu, Wang Mingxian and others planned this ceremony.

"The Seven Deadly Sins" ceremony was planned by wen Pulin (exhibition organizer and artist).
Documents from the original exhibition, consisting in photographs, videos, and other archives, were supposed to be shown for the first time after 20 years.

However, this event was cancelled at the last minute, the given reason being that the exhibition wasn't properly registered....
