世界上的每个事物都独一无二，所谓差异性，就是个体存在的独特意义。然而在当下，人作为个体的独特意义却在不知不觉中被逐渐消磨，趋向同化，从个体到族群都处于对现实乐观假想的精神麻痹。青年艺术家吕延翔，敏感于自己的境遇，从2010年至今，他以一系列男性题材作品直面自己的境遇、反思和观念，表达对自由的向往，对束缚的觉察，对隐患的洞悉，和打破种种境遇的渴望。他的画面里总有一些小丑和神情不安的人的形象，也总有小兔子、小鸟、小鱼等，还会出现我们生活里无处不在的透明胶带。吕延翔把现实中迷茫、抱有幻想的人物，弱小、企图逃逸的动物，以及随处可见而又足以致命的器物连同现实的环境和场景，全部从社会抽离出来，在自己的艺术世界里构建起另一个现实的景象，荒诞而又合理。

值得注意的是，吕延翔的部分作品，其题材切入点是男性身份和酷儿话语。即艺术家对特定群体的关注，这个群体依然属于社会一部分，吕延翔所要表达的，是一个点来阐述整个人群的境遇和普遍性的社会问题，即他在自述中提到的，社会-群体，个性- 共性的过程。在中国当代艺术现场，这部分题材的作品，是极其少见的。创作这类作品，与其说吕延翔独具慧眼，不妨讲他更具有普世情怀。本次展览，是吕延翔迄今为止最完整呈现其创作历程的个展。我们可以在他近三年的作品里看到艺术家对自身以及男性族群现实境遇的陈述和反省，从而把始终在操控时代和意识，无声吞噬鲜活个体的社会现实揭开。吕延翔要唤回的是他的自我。他在展览中要给我们启示的，也是每个人的自我。所谓“境者心造也。一切物境皆虚幻，惟心所造之境为真实。”（梁启超《惟心》）

吕延翔，1984年出生于大连市，2007年毕业于杭州中国美术学院油画系第一工作室，获学士学位。2012年，吕延翔移居北京宋庄，开始深入创作其自2011年起开始的表达自身境遇及具人群普遍性社会意义的男性题材作品，并受到关注。2013年，吕延翔的《找自己》等系列作品在全国近千名杰出青年艺术家中脱颖而出，成功获得提名参加2013今日美术馆\马爹利艺术基金“关注未来英才计划”计划入围展。其他当年重要展览还包括：法国阳狮集团Art Pub开幕首展《第六感》，上海；2013年度“青年艺术100”艺术家暨全国巡展，HIHEY《天使收藏家 — HIHEY创立两周年作品展》。此前，吕延翔分别于2011年、2008年举办个展《幻境•现实》和《和鸣》。2012年，吕延翔被授予IDAA国际设计美术大奖赛，油画组别金奖(第四届，2012年)，他还曾参加《新学院派艺术展》(2011年，英国)。吕延翔作品已发表于《艺术名家》、《艺术财富》、《赏阅》、《美术报》等刊物，并被包括中国文化部、中国美术学院、浙江美术馆、艺术基金会、多家专业画廊艺术机构及私人收藏。

Everything in the world is unique. Yet the unique connotation of difference seems faded unconsciously in the society where we live in, and people are comfortable indulging in spirit torpor of optimistic imagination towards reality. Since 2010, Lv Yanxiang, sensitive to his own state of plight in life, produced a body of work that attempts to trouble the conventions of gender and men’s indentify to highlight the performative aspect of identity and to expose the tyranny of the normal in which the codes and cultures in the society are still largely assimilated.

On Lv’s canvas, certain visuals appear constantly – clowns, anxious faces, adhesive tapes, as well as the artist’s distinct and considered choice of animals: rabbit, bird and fish. Lv dissociates visuals from real life -  perplexed and chimerical figures, animals that are weak and almost always attempt to run away when facing uncertainties, and everyday objects that can be immediately lethal, alongside realistic scenes and environments. The artist constructs an alternative scene of reality in the world of his art, absurd while sensible, suggesting an awareness of constraint, and desire to remove plights around. A good part of Lv’s work, exposing from his own identity anxiety, speaks to his larger concern about a particular male community, which is clearly a real part of our society today. Notably in the Chinese art scene at the moment, artworks of such are still very rare to see.

Born in Dalian in 1984, Lv Yanxiang graduated from the China Academy of Art in 2007 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art, Oil Painting. In 2012, Lv moved to Songzhuang, Beijing when he began to concentrate on his signature body of work that troubles the conventions of gender and men’s indentify， a particularly considered choice of subject that he started a year earlier as part of his self-discovery journey. The series has since received increasing attention. In 2013, a body of three works including "Finding Yourself” was successfully entered into the selection of Today Art Museum and the Martell Art Fund “2013 Focus on Talents” Finalists Exhibition as the solo oil painter out of out of nearly a thousand professional contesters in the nation. Other major events during the year include Sixth Sense: Publicis Art Pub Inaugural Exhibition, Shanghai; Nominated as a 2013 Art Nova 100 Artist alongside its national exhibition tour; and HIHEY’s Angel Collectors: Two-Year Anniversary Exhibition. Prior, Lv held two solo exhibitions, Reality or Fantasy in 2011, and Resonance in 2008.

In 2012, Lv was awarded gold metal of oil painting in the International Design Art Awards (IDAA) (4^thEdition). He was included in the New Academic Art: Artists from Leading Chinese Art Colleges in London, UK (2011). Lv’s works have been published in such renowned titles including the Artists, Fortune and Art, Read,Fine Arts, among the others. His works are in the collections of Chinese Ministry of Culture, China Academy of Art, Ghana Art Institute, various Art Funds/Foundations, as well as in private hands.

Situated in M50, a premier art compound of Shanghai, LOFTOOO Art Space aims to feature visions produced by Chinese emerging artists who rejuvenate and challenge the contemporary art repertoire. The space is dedicated to discover and promote young artists, a majority of which belongs to the generation of the late 70's and 80's. We select artists who work in a variety of media with a focus on works on canvas and paper, photography and installation art.
