Zhu Handong, born in 1978 in Hukou County, Jiangxi Province, has been living and working in Beijing since 1997. Since his debut Photography Exhibition 'Self Talking' nominated by Association of Fine Art (AFA) back in 2002, Zhu Handong has consecutively participated in an array of photo and modern art exhibitions, such as China-Blue Photo Show, Pingyao Photo Festival, Song Zhuang Art Festival and etc. Zhu has also conducted in-depth exploration and experiment in the areas of performance art and installation art.
Beijing Dream series captures the real urge that the author has to reach into his inner heart. Ever since his childhood, the author had a great yearning towards Beijing, and this yearning from inner heart then derived a kind of beautified imagination, like a fusion of dream mixing up with the naked reality. The mirage in the mirror is presented by the Palace in Beijing Dream, amid this process of imagination, the history has vanished into non-existence, leaving behind a shadow of a Dynasty and author's imagination of this mirage.
Shadow series was created by Zhu Handong in 2006 charactering self-meditation. Torn between shadow and subconsciousness, shadow and objects, desire and compression, this series seeks to look into deeper layers of life. These blurred images, once projected upon the backdrop of daily life, immediately are transformed into an expression of the will by individual subconsciousness.
Monologue series is done in such a way that the author shot in varied situations through a piece of glass tinted with his own blood. The original idea came from the legend that the Buddha's monks were writing scriptures with their own blood. Zhu has been using shadow as a means to demonstrate his confusion and anxiety in his subconsciousness, and the process of this photographic behavior, given these works with strong impact of art, touching and thought-provoking.
Photographic works by Zhu Handong demonstrate the unique personal character of his own, the character that keeps on searching the real sensation in his innermost world.
