沈少民的作品可以说都关乎人性与社会及其制度的关系，他是一个很好的宏大叙事者。从对生物科技引起的变异，到对博物馆制度神话的颠覆，再到对当代艺术语境的营造，无不表现了强烈的社会责任感和艺术原创精神，展开了一个艺术家个体行为对文化、社会深刻关注的意义。在电影《一个和尚的庙宇》中他保持着一贯作为旁观者的身份，用镜头语言把对人类孤独、无奈、焦灼的生存感转化为一种轻松的叙事。一个和尚的寺庙无关乎佛教和人类的精神信仰，在他眼中，佛教已经演变成一个产业化现象。
此次展览的装置作品《维纳斯》，他用硅胶把千古经典形象回复成现实的肉身，消解了时间意义上的美感以及长期以来形成的概念化“残缺美”。扭曲的《蒙娜丽莎》也是对古典理想主义的完美用当代艺术语汇重新编织，呈现一种近乎冷酷的视觉经验。
在这似乎并不关联的三件作品中可以看出，沈少民是一个常常怀疑世俗社会游戏规则的人。他探求并冥想着作为人类所承载的各种意义问题。
Almost all of the works of Shen Shaomin can be related with the humanity, society and the systems of the society, he is a very good narrator of grand scenaries. The artist has touched the issues such as the mutation caused by biotechnology, the subversion of the myth of museum systems and then the reconstruction of contemporary artistic languge, all these show an artist’s strong sense of social responsibility and artistic originality, and the significance of his profound culture and social concern as an intellectual individual. In the film "One Monk Temple", Shen Shaomin consistently keeps the identity as a bystander. He converted human loneliness, helpless, deeply worried feeling of survival into a kind of relaxed narrative by his camera language. The One Monk Temple has nothing to do with the Buddhism and human‘s spiritual beliefs, in artist’s eyes, Buddhism has evolved into an industrialization phenomenon.
In this exhibition, Shen Shaomin’s two installation works "Venus" and "Mona Lisa" are also presented. The artist resculpted the historic classical image of "Venus" into a realistic flesh with silicon, which diluted the sense of beauty in our modern times and dispelled the traditional conception of "incomplete beauty". The distorted "Mona Lisa" is a piece recompiled with contemporary art language regarding to the perfection of classical idealism, presenting a kind of cruel visual experience.
Through these three pieces of works which seem not to be related with each other, it can be seen that Shen Shaomin often doubts the playing rules of the secular society. He explores and meditates about various meaningful questions which are being carried by human beings.
