Exclusive Exhibition of Contemporary Glass Art from Europe

For the third time, LEVANT ART will be hosting a high end collection of Contemporary Glass Art, focusing this time on art works of internationally recognized glass artists from Slovakia.

Since 2010 through its biennale exhibitions iglass, LEVANT ART, the Shanghai based gallery of contemporary art, is presenting legends, established and emerging artists from the American as well as European Studio Glass. Following this tradition this year from October 24 to December 25, the gallery will show 26sets of exclusive Glass Sculptures from Slovakia with the participation of artists that belong to the top of the European Glass Art Scenes. ZoraPalová,ŠtepánPála, Miloš Balgavý  or Oliver Leššo to name few of them, have been exhibiting in prestigious galleries and their works are included in prominent public collections in Europe, USA and Asia. Not forgetting Václav Cigler, the legend in the field of optical glass sculptures, who has not only influenced generations of artists in the Czech and Slovak republic but his stylistic example has also affected the work of glass artists all around the world.

As we just hold the iglass 2012 Czech Glass Sculpture Exhibition in the end of 2012. And Czech as well as Slovak glass art have the same origin of place and constitutes a leading part of the history of the glass art. For these reasons, we began to prepare the iglass 2013 Slovak Contemporary Glass Art , with the intention to not only bring to the Chinese audience a series of best artworks of one place of the glass center in Central Europe, but also try to display a possible complete set of glass artworks created in this special region. In spite of the fact that theiglass 2013cuts in the interval the biennialoriginally designed, but the purpose of the event is still in accordance with the biennial conception - to promote glass art and show the spirits of glass .

The opening ceremony will take place at LEVANT ARTin Shanghai on October 24 with the personal presence of the well known and internationally recognized glass artists  ZoraPalová and ŠtepánPála. Both students of the famous Václav Cigler have followed their own artistic path over the years. As Štepán Pala found his expression mainly in optical glass, Zora has established an international reputation as a glass artist through her emotional melted sculptures. Except Zora and Štepán the invitees will have the also the possibility to meet some other interesting artists from Slovakia like Ašot Haas or Patrik Illo, one of the best  glass designers in Central Europe.

On October 23, Professor Zhuang, Director of Glass studio, College of Fine Arts, Shanghai University will host lectures from Zora Palováand Patrik Illo in the campus.
