三年展现场2012年新美术馆三年展于今日拉开帷幕，展会将一直持续至4月22日。本届三年展的名字定为“不受控（The Ungovernables）”，它集中展示了34位艺术家、艺术组合以及临时创作组合的作品——即总共有50多位参展者，他们都出生于上世纪70年代中期至80年代中期，其中有许多人之前从未在美国举办过展览。本届三年展名字的灵感来源于“无法控制（ungovernability）”这一概念，以及它从一个用来描述不守规矩这一“特性”的贬义词转变成一种非暴力反抗与自我决定的策略的事实。
本届三年展是一场关于在60、70年代独立和革命运动之后成年的那一代人的展会。展出作品通过它们使用的材料以及形式探索了无常性以及与现在和未来的联系。许多作品都是暂时、特定场域以及表演性的，它们反映了一种充满了可能性与智慧的状态。
