写在研修班结业汇报展览之前
又一届半岛版画研修班学员结业了,我为我的学员感到自豪,他们让我有成就感。
我曾自我调侃说我们半岛版画研修班是“山寨版”的:半岛的教学条件简陋。另外,在教学经验、学术积淀与课程安排的系统性上,远不如许多著名的美术院校。
我们的研修班还是“袖珍版的”。木版、铜版、丝网、水印、套色、感光……等许多版种的课程被压缩在短短的半年之内,每周课时仅为星期日一天,就这么点时间,对于版画这一庞大体系来说,粗粗浏览,初浅动手接触一下也不算宽裕,要用来“研修”真是勉强。
我们的教师与学员也是“杂牌军”(这里没有贬义),我们没有固定在编的教师队伍,教师都是挤出假日业余时间从各地各校赶来为学员授课的,这是一批有丰富教学经验与艺术成就的优秀画家,他们来任教是我们工作室的荣耀。至于我们的学员也是各色人等,年龄老老少少,水平参次不齐,进研修班之前多数对版画了解有限,并且多数是各单位和机构的要人能人和忙人,他们往往在假日里也须向单位和家人“请假”前来听课。
但这个“山寨版”的研修班却有一个非常良好的学习氛围,学员们完全是处出于对艺术的热爱与对版画的兴趣并不带其他功利地走进研修班的。丰富的社会阅历使他们更懂得珍惜难得学习机会。诚如为他们授课的张远帆老师所言,“这些学员听课专注而认真,提问与研讨热烈而恳切,都表现出他们对版画的热爱以及对艺术、对老师的尊重,这样的氛围在如今的艺术院校里已经比较少见了,为他们授课是非常愉快和享受的。”
在半年授课结束后,紧接着是为期三个月的创作,学员们以极大的热情与主动性筹备了这个汇报展览。虽然有部分作品仍显稚嫩,但他们的进步大大超出了我的预期,部分学员的作品已入选上海和全国的重要展览甚至获奖。更让人高兴的是,他们都觉得自己在工作室找到了志同道合的新朋友,开始学会面对快节奏的社会生活以及种种压力与诱惑,从容地安排自己的学习创作,规划自己的艺术未来。
我真为他们感到高兴与自豪,他们确实让我有成就感。

Preface
Another Peninsula printmaking workshop session ended, and I'm proud of my students. They give me have a sense of accomplishment.
I used to laugh at our class as the "cheap pirated copy": Our conditions and facilities are limited, in addition, our academic foundation and curriculum is far behind many well-known fine art schools.
Our class is a "mini edition": Woodcut (water-based and reductive printing), photo etching, screen printing, collagraph ... ... so many different courses are compressed into a short span of six months, one full day class every Sunday. Such intensive curriculum, for the vast knowledge of printmaking medium, even for new beginners to have a quick browse would be tight, let alone to say in-depth study.
Our teachers and the student are also “the motley crew” (without any disrespectful connotation). We do not have a fixed group of full time teachers, they all squeeze their Sunday spare time from regular teaching job in various art schools to come here. It is an honor to have all these renowned artists with rich teaching experiences. Our students are also from assorted backgrounds, in different age groups, when entering, their understanding about printmaking is usually juvenile. With busy career obligations, they often must “ask for leave” from heir families to attend the course.
But this “cheap pirated copy” of class provides a very good learning atmosphere, all the reason for students to be here is completely out of their passion for art without any material or commercial expectation. They greatly cherish this continuing education opportunities. Like the instructor Mr. Zhang Yuanfan said: These students are very dedicated and focused about the demonstration, their heated discussions and detailed questions all show great enthusiasm for art and respect for teachers, which is already rare in today’s regular art academies classroom. It’s an enjoyable pleasure to teach them.
After half year class session ended, it is followed by three-month-long project making period. The students have organized this exhibition with enormous enthusiasm and motivation . Although a portion of the works still look obviously immature, but their progress has surpassed my previous anticipation. Part of their works have been juried into a lot of important local and national exhibitions, some even won prizes. What is more interesting is, they have all found new friends in this community, and learned how to keep on their artistic endeavor in the ordinary hectic urban life. I truly felt happy and proud for them, they gave me quite some sense of achievements.
