古根海姆创立50周年之际推出一个全新的年度艺术奖项，共颁发年度艺术家（Artist of the Year），年度策展人（Curator of the Year），年度新艺术家（New Artist of the Year）等10个奖项，其中9各奖项由专业评审团选出，但是以艺术家Rob Pruitt自己名字命名的“Rob Pruitt”奖是例外。
10月29日主办方举办的颁奖典礼，并公布了获奖名单，玛丽海尔曼（Mary Heilmann）击败路易斯布尔乔亚（Louise Bourgeois）、乌尔斯费舍尔（Urs Fischer）和丹格雷厄姆（Dan Graham）获得年度艺术家。
