Daft Punk fake concert in Shanghai: a one million yuan swindling
Hundreds of fans bought tickets for a concert announced on February 13th. A big swindling. Daft punk agent deny having organized such an event in Shanghai.
The band won't play in Shanghai. Within a weekend the announcement of this concert spread everywhere among the electro music lovers, and all the ticket were sold in three days.
"Last sunday, my roommate told me that there was a concert of Daft punk and that he bought a ticket. I love this band." said Celestin Masse, a 23 years old French student living in Shanghai, "I know someone who bought 10 tickets for his friends".
All the people who managed to get tickets were waiting the 13th with great enthusiasm.
Until they heard that this concert was never organized. The two musicians, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo don't have any plan of playing in Shanghai.
A very well organized swindling. A website dafthidden.com was created in January to announce the organization of this concert. "They pirated the site of the band, using the same graphic design, all without our concent" says Thibaut Casanova, from EMI Music. The website has been closed since.
The swindlers also manage to spread this rumour among expatriate community in Shanghai. They hire some people for taht. Julien Grandidier Valentini who has been looking for a job for two weeks was happy to answer a job announcement proposed by the website enjoyclassifieds.com. The job was to spread around this news within one week. Then he could get 10% of the money made on the sold tickets on the concert evening. As other bands have been organizing secret concerts he found this news plausible. He now cannot reach the people who got in touch with him and didn't get a yuan.
He thinks that 2000 fake tickets has been sold during the weekend, costing 500 yuan each. In total the swindlers probably earn one million yuan.
